PINIP 1: The Capriccio: Amanda Ellis

The analysis diagram of each cappricio followed by the chosen alternations.
1. Dirck Van Delen- focus on the alternation of people and the different types of events. The atmosphere is hopeful.
2. William Hogarth- focus on etching technique and the texture and material quality it gives. The atmosphere is the contradiction of people in one event.
The following are all the alterations that I produced:

Introducing foreign objects and altering the space to explore how the atmosphere changes:

Still and Silent- contemporary setting

Sorrow, Silence

Noisy and cheerful despite of the lack of people presented

Crowded space, bustling with people and noise
Rendering of spatial effects with only the people highlighted.

Alteration of 'The times' :

Space becomes more confined with the dead end.
Calm and slightly romantic.

Buildings change to an urban town house.

remove smoke. Space feels calm

removing the etching strokes and details. the fuzziness and visual noise created by the etching is eliminated.
different viewpoint of the space. Exploring the use of materials suggested by the etching.

How would the drawing would look like with realistic materials.
To conclude, the two themes I would like to explore are how people effect the mood and sound of the space. Also, how the tactile quality can influence mood and sound.

These are the tools and methods I use:
1. adding people
2. subtracting people
3. change texture and materials
4. change the scale of people
