such as 2D presentation, 3D presentation and draw the line to find volume of space.

Interno di Reggia con figure di guerrieri
by
Antonio Joli
1777

Alteration 1
It was originally an exterior space. From the same point of view in the original, you can perceive the back empty court yard which contrast to the front that contain a scene. Imagining this same scene happenind in different context and atmosphere. In order to keep the protagonist action of the scene, what is left to change is the surrounding and the layer in the back. The method used is replacement. The one that give the most impact after change is the one chosen above.
It becomes a setting of a scene in a modern theatre

Original Painting and Diagrammatic Reading

The original painting present a grand exterior space which contain courtyard in the back and continue on in the further back. The diagram explain personal interpretation of the painting. The painting can be separated in 3 layers. The mood shifted through layer, chaos on front to private in the back. The contrast of layer created by using light, shadow and color used to emphasize and capture our eyes. Eyes stayed on the front first and then conquest for more information in further back behind the portal.

Alteration1
Again, replacement technique is used to create different atmosphere and shift mood.
The background which is another courtyard is replaced by a port, full with ships.
The narrative changed from two noblemen touring around the place to a traveling rich couple that are about to boarding the ship.

Original Painting and Diagrammatic Reading
The original painting is similar to the one before. It also has 3 layers, framing in the front, middle with the protagonist and the last layer of the courtyard. Eyes are leading by the perspective eyes creating by the column arrangement until we reach the courtyard in the back. The view block our eyes to go further so we moving backward to the front and start to look around for more details.

Giovanni Pannini
1757

Alteration 1

The original painting is the view of an art gallery, which is full of paintings. We know that we are looking at the painting because of the frame of the paintings. The frame is the element that define what is real and what is fake. In this alteration I introduce more frame to cover the background. This would add the ambiguity into the capriccio. This make it more difficult to define what is real and what is fake. It also raises questions about how the actual space really is.

Original painting & Capriccio analysis diagram

The original capriccio is the view of an art gallery. It is full of paintings and statues. The painting are mainly the architectural paintings showing different impressive spaces. In the diagram, I created my own story about the space from different elements that can be seen in the painting. It is showing my own interpretation of the painting.

Architectural Fantasy
by
Carl Laubin

Alteration 1

The original painting is the view of a ruin which looked sacred and untouchable. In this alteration I imagined what would happen when we cut a section through a buildings that we see. There actually might be many people living behind this ruin facade, and circulating around by elevators. Which is completely different from what we perceived from outside.

Original painting & Capriccio analysis diagram

The original painting is the view of an architectural ruin of unknown civilization. The buildings inside the painting are mainly sacred building like temple, castle, court etc. The place where the building is situated in gives the untouchable quality to the painting. The diagram shows the detail of my interpretation of the painting.

by
Drick van Denlen
1645

Alteration 1.
Atmospheric Intention : Foreign/Fantasy/Hypperality
Operations :
1. Replacing the existing orange family in black costumes with Thai dancer in traditional thai costume.
Notice : A group of 4 people to 2 changes the meaning and atmosphere of the capriccio completely. (Narratively, group of 4 implies "family" and establishs connection with the body in the tomb, once replaced by 2 Thai dancer , at atmosphere is read as this foreign ceremony in a completely wrong context.)
2. Adding other foreign objects near by the tomb (all of which are taken at spiritual shrine at Triam Udom High School adjacent to our faculty.)

Original Painting & Diagrammatic reading

Diagrammatic reading Graphic, Spatial, and Narrative Diagram
The intention for this diagram is to dissect the existing capriccio graphic (in pink highlight) such as composition, scale, and hierarchy of perception from the first thing you see to the last in varying opacity of pink. This first aspect is purely perception based. The second aspect is the reading of ornaments illustrates by different degree of distortions to the object which has more meaning to me personally in telling the narrative (for example, black costume resonates very powerfully because it implying that this setting might be a funeral). The last aspect is the intricacy level which is describe by the different degree of density of line within the object outline. The intricacy is based on the amount of detail the object has.

Stage set for Mozart's Magic Flute
by
SHINKEL, Karl Friedrich
1815
Alteration 1.
Atmospheric Intention : Ironic
Operations :
1. Add jet airplane to the scene with smoke trail to destroy the narrative of the capriccio and turning it into an ironic statement. ( a man standing on the moon seemingly worship something, but all the sudden, this airplane out of nowhere flies right across, destroying the whole narrative.)

Original Painting & Diagrammatic reading
Original Painting : Stage set for Mozart's Magic Flute
1815 SCHINKEL, Karl Friedrich
Diagrammatic reading : Graphic, Spatial, and Narrative Diagram
The intention for this diagram is primarily focused on the narrative behide the capriccio. This was done re presenting the capriccio from a back stage point of view as opposed to the original where the viewers are the audience sitting and watching the play. The feeling of being back stage is done by adding back stage structure (in white) and also people in work mode seemingly working on back stage set up. Here the main protagonist is re   represent as having sling tied to his suits in order for him to appeal as if he floating in mid air. The graphic of star alignments are also being analyzed to understand how the illusion it produces to make the flat stage seems to appear like a dome by using bigger stars at the bottom and gradually getting smaller as it approaches the top.
A deeper shade of blue represent what is put in the foreground. Also, the highlight in the clouds edges are meant to create depth of field and also establish focal point.

The Interior of Cunerakerk Rhenen
by
Bartholomeus Van Bassen
1638
Alteration 1.
It was originally an old chamber like feeling with people walking around and insignia hangs on mostly every column. Viewers receive story through these people and elements, in order to completely change the perspectives through this painting, i use method of eliminating elements which would effect the experiences of the receivers as effectives as possible. Here's i introduce a time warp space from a hundred years of history chamber into refinished modern feeling of gallery hallway.

Original Painting & Diagrammatic reading
I suddenly perceive the focus point where it leads my eyes to the end of the corridor at the center of this painting. A hidden space behinds this chamber become greatly important due to the act of people. Hence the indicators become an important part of my analysis through this painting where i interpret the space by focusing on each elements that has been decorated in a space.

Interior of the Great Hall on the Binnenhof in The Hague.
during the Great Assembly of the States-General in 1651
by
Bassen, van Batholomeus
1651
Alteration 1.
Following from Previous painting of Bassen, this one share a similarity where the indicator of its story play a very strong part in this painting. Without heraldry on the flags, no painting on the wall, no people assembly in a hall, has turn the quality of this space upside down. No activities are no longer existed, yet it gives a hint of what was happen before or what is it hidden behind the curtain flags wall.

Original Painting & Diagrammatic reading
This painting is obviously showing a cut and paste line at the edge between painting and essembly, which is the intentionally done by artist himself for this painting to be able to change its activity and context. I took this as an special method where i play with the scene that people acts in a space. I analyze through the act of people, dogs, a cup of coffee on a table, heraldry, that all of them would indicates stories that make up a whole painting.

Alteration 1Changing the space by deleting all the existing people and introducing other human figures to impact the space by changing the narrative.
Original painting and diagrammatic reading
The original painting presents an ambiguous view where various narratives may be interpreted different according to each individual. The diagrammatic reading is my personal interpretation of the narrative of the space by analyzing the foreground, mid ground, and background of the space as well as the details the human figures that hints a certain narrative. In addition, the narrative of this painting that I interpreted in the original painting is a utilitarian space where people come by to do their regular daily routine/ household chores; today, judging from the cloud and lighting, a storm is approaching while the background reveals light, which symbolizes the curious hope unknown as the stairs ascend mysteriously.

Alteration 1
Changing the atmosphere of the painting through adding in foreign object of a dome and adjusting the lighting to being dimmer in order to create a new narrative to the painting,

Original painting and diagrammatic reading
The original painting shows ambiguous narrative of an abandon part of town where people standing on the land are people who are exiled and are looking back to the prosperous side of the land. Another interpretation would be where the empty side is the residential side where people have to cross over daily in order to get their daily needs since the other side is the working/ producing side of town.

ARCHITECTURAL CAPRICCIO WITH JEPHTHAH AND HIS DAUGHTER
by
DIRCK VAN DELEN
1640

Alteration 1.
This is a experimentation of the painting inspired by an effect in Photoshop and case study. This image show a tracing of elements. By reduction of an information and leave out the edge , so we can be more focus.

Original Painting & Diagrammatic reading
The original painting already shows the event taking place in the courtyard of the palace, there are two main characters in foreground. Dad and his Daughter. They seem to have an argument on something. And this is seem to be very important because there is no one in the background and second floor.

The main analysis of this painting is the separation of male and female. In the foreground, there is a contraction of royal family is going on in the courtyard. This is the most important event in this painting because there isn't anyone on the second floor and the background. It makes a contradiction of foreground and background as well. In term of architectural, the two building has its own representation, the palace on the right is for male and the palace on the left is for female. You can recognize by comparing the size and shape of the columns. Moreover, these two building are separated by the pond.

Alteration 1.
Here, i replaced the background with an image of waterfall to create a clear understanding of where is this ruined structure. So now it is just next to the waterfall. The atmosphere from being lost changed to sightseeing. Moreover, different activities of human showing different atmosphere. However, the camera man on the bottom left showing that all these activities are just acting.

 Original Painting & Diagrammatic reading

The original painting showing the situation of being lost in the ruin place. The group of different class of people helping each other out on finding way to get out of the space. While there is a women taken by someone, then the man pointing out at her. However, there is a city in the foreground, where it shows that this ruin structure is in the middle of forest. The diagram describe this painting similarly to the first capirccio but no gender involved. Here i pointed on where is the element that make the architecture ruined. People in this image kind of being lost and find their way home. There are different class of people here.

by
Dirck Van Delen
1630
                                                                             Alteration 1.
I altered this painting by removing the existing people and some ornaments and then inserting foreign people in. This is to achieve a completely new narrative of "sorrow", a funeral in a church.
Original Painting & Diagrammatic reading
The atmosphere in the original painting on the left hand almost have a hopeful atmosphere in it. This is because of the use of people and their actions which convey the reconstruction of a worn down church. The analysis diagram shows my viewpoint of the painting in the analysis of a wrong perspective (where the people in the background is much smaller than what is meant to be in real life). Moreover, the categorised different types of people and what their actions are. I concluded that people changes the space in this specific painting, the adding or removing of people changes space to have a completely different atmosphere.

The times
by
William Hogarth
1762
Alteration 1.
This cappricio has an atmosphere of a calm and peaceful city. I altered this cappricio by removing the smoke in the sky and the fire truck which they cause a very hectic and disturbed atmosphere.
Original Painting & Diagrammatic reading
The atmosphere in the original cappricio is a contradicting space with hope. The actions of humans in this cappricio is helping each other in the background but at the same time, the atmosphere in the foreground seems surprisingly calm and enjoyable. This is seen by the actions of people in the cappricio.
However, what intrigues me is not much about the people but the use of etching techniques and strokes which is used to define changing materials, textures and mood. I characterised the different etching strokes and analysed the changes of strokes in correlation with materials and atmospheres.

Architectural Fantasy
by
Clerisseau Charles Louis
1784
Alteration 1.
I altered the brightness of the picture to be darker and deleted people out to create a desperate and neglected atmosphere.
I also added some light to the house at the background to create a new focus point to make people aware of the house because in the original picture, there are a lot of focus point at the front such as people and the remains and we would not aware of the house in the background.

Original Painting & Diagrammatic reading
The artist used complementary color to create a bright and lively atmosphere.
The place might a sacred space because of the stucco on the top of the column which represents people doing some kind of ceremony, and there is a coffin, basin and podium, which the ram head on the podium is one of the sacrificial ornament.
There are also uncommon objects in the space which is the corinthian capital, which is strange because the columns that used in this building are doric columns and the entasis of the column next to the corinthian capital has got spiral lines, which it should be in vertical lines.
The scale of people seems to be wrong, i drew circles on top of the people to create human's ergonoms and adjusted all lines to change positions as they are all standing straight and drew pink-dashed lines to the vanishing point, the man with a stone and a woman washing clothes seems to be taller than a man and a woman on the right, as they are standing further, they should be shorter but in this picture, all of their heights are quite similar.

Alteration 1.
The space in the original picture gives a cramped atmosphere, the space seems to be really closed, so I deleted the wall at the top to create more open space.

Original Painting & Diagrammatic reading
The drawing obviously shows layers; foreground, mid-ground and background.
The hashed purple lines represents the indoor area and without hash lines is the outdoor area.
The arch at the foreground creates framing to this picture.
The lion sculptures at the steps represents nobility and courage, which is commonly use in palace.
The elegant costume and dignified posture of a man and a woman on the left presents that they are noblemen, the plain costume and humble posture of the man in the middle and a lady at the stairs presents that they are servants and the prestige posture and black color costume of the man on the right presents that he is a knight.
