Bartholomeus Van Bassen's painting-contemplation shifts.

Interior of the Cunerakerk Rhenen

This is an original painting.
"Admiration in an elegance manner(to the meticulous architecture), while feeling warmth like autumn afternoon and lingering through the hallway where contains historic moment within it.

I desaturated the color of architecture, enchanted people and dogs, increase grain and noise to concrete.
try to make it look older.
Turn the environment cooler
to fit cloths people wore that looking quite cold.
Make the one lady who is on her way to her maid's work
DISSAPPEAR!
Keep only the Formal/Dark tone cloths people.
Pretend that they on their way back from important meeting.
Insignia and organs on the wall is GONE.
Adding a window is an attempt to seperate this hall from the rest of building.
All insignia that represent remarkable historic moments are all disappear.
This hall turn into a more simpler and casual space.
Inside out!

BASSEN Bartholomeus - Interior of the Great Hall on the Binnenhof in The Hague, during the Great Assembly of the States-General in 1651

The Original Painting.
Feel the great power of the empire, the kingdom has flags as representative.
That too many flags give a feeling of a 'standing in an illusion that look so real and alive.'

They are no longer exist as a state or kingdom without their signage up.

Environment of an assembly gets dark, a more intense feeling increase.

All flags with different size has the same color as it is standout from an assembly that actually happens.
This is for emphasizing the depth and dimension to the eyes.
People who actually is not a part of assembly has become part of it,
by shift their cloths color to all blacks which consider formal.
This one is actually the same original painting.
The trick by an artist is:
The painting consists of a 52 × 66 cm wooden panel with attached to it a smaller 9 × 42 cm copper plate. When this plate is lowered the Great Assembly of the States General in 1651 becomes visible,
and When this plate is raised the view on the Great Assembly is obscured by a wall of paintings

Maybe i could continue by imitate this process of changing parts,
and recreate another situations within a single environment.

  1. The one with all the insignia gone is very very good! I would recommend that you work from that one and remove even more. You still have the colour of the space, you still have the ornamentation etc. By turning it into a more pure space it give you the possibility to create something completely different. And the last point regarding the "trick" is fantastic! Where did you find it? It think this is definitely a very interesting method of alteration.
